With very heavy hearts, we announce the passing of Gary Lee Thompson, a beloved husband, dad, brother, and grandpa. Gary passed away on August 22,2024 surrounded by his loving family at the University of Utah Hospital.

Gary was born on August 03,1955 in Rock Springs,Wyoming to the late William Walter & Alice Ruth(Dupier)Thompson in Rock Springs, Wyoming. He was the fourth youngest of six children. Gary graduated from Evanston High School. 

Gary married Kathy Elizabeth Redford(Thompson) January 25,1985 in Tabiona, Utah. They had two beautiful children Billy August Thompson and Heather Leigh Thompson. Later on Billy had three beautiful children Shelby, Nevaeh, Roper and Heather had one beautiful little boy Sawyer Lee. Gary’s wife, children and grandchildren was the light of his life. 

Gary is survived by his wife: Kathy his two children: Billy(Maggie)Thompson and Heather Thompson. He also leaves behind his grandchildren Shelby, Nevaeh, Roper and Sawyer. Gary also leaves behind his brothers & sisters, Allen Thompson, Lois(Bob)Woodward, and Billy(Kathy) Thompson. As well as many cousins, aunts, uncles nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents William Walter & Alice Ruth(Dupier)Thompson, his sister & brother in law Peggy(Melvin)Lloyd. Ashley well as his father & mother in law Neil Larsen & Sarah Elizabeth(Neeley)Redford. As well as great grandparents, grandparents, aunts, uncles, nieces & nephews.

Gary’s true love was for his wife Kathy, his children and grandchildren. He loved to hunt, fish, camp, ride horses, train horses with his daughter Heather and anything that was outdoors & in the mountains. Gary always said & lived by these words that to wake up & feel alive that it was a great day. 

Gary was a hard worker from a very young age. Which he started in his dads parts house (Bill’s House of Parts) & then worked underground for a bit, then back to selling parts in the automotive industry & then eventually went to the oilfield selling parts & then he retired. No matter the job he always gave it his all. 

Gary was known for his outpouring love of his family. He loved teaching his kids about all things outdoors & horses. Making countless memories going on pack trips in the Uinta’s & Wind River Mountains, hunting & everything in between. Then when his grandchildren were born they lite up a piece oh him you had never seen before. Gary loved spending every minute possible with his family as they were his whole world, & it all started with meeting his wife Kathy & marrying her six weeks to the day after them meeting. 

Gary’s courageous spirit & unwavering support for his wife, children & grandchildren was evident in every aspect of his life. Nobody ever questioned his support for his family, as everyone knew if they ever called or just needed a shoulder to cry on he would be there even if you were hundreds of miles away. He would find a way to make sure his family was taken care of no matter what. 

Although his kids & grandchildren were spread amongst different states, it never hindered his dedication, support & love for kid’s & grandchildren. In which they will always love, admire, cherish him for that. Gary will always be greatly missed & loved. His legacy of love, strength, dedication & courage will live on through his family. Gary will keep living on through his family & you can always see little signs from him in the stars, the butterflies, the mountains & the birds. 

A celebration of life will be held, September 7,2024, at 1:00 pm at Crandall Funeral Home, 800 Uinta Street, Evanston, Wyoming 82930.   A luncheon will follow at the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, 251 Elm Street, Evanston.

The family is asking for donations in lieu of flowers to help with his funeral & medical expenses that has built up over the last year. Ways to donate are Cash App, $KathyThompson1985 or Go fund me
