Sterlin Arthur Hutchinson

November 11, 1941 — July 20, 2024

Evanston

Sterlin Arthur Hutchinson, age 82 of Hilliard, Wyoming passed away peacefully and quietly on July 20, 2024 at his daughter's home in Evanston, Wyoming. He was born November 11, 1941 in Ogden, Utah the oldest child of Arthur and Alberta Hutchinson.

He attended his early years of school in Hilliard, Wyoming and graduated from Evanston High School in 1961. He spent many early years of his life living in a small home with his parents and siblings near his grandparents’ home and ranch in Hilliard. Some of his fondest memories were of that time of his life. Later, the family moved to nearby Evanston. Sterlin remembers his family longing to be back in Hilliard. The family made the move back to Hillard when Sterlin was a teenager. He worked hard along with his parents and siblings to establish the family ranch and home. He was close to his family and was known as “sunshine” along with other fun nicknames. Sterlin truly was a light and “sunshine” to everyone he came into contact with.

Sterlin met the love of his life, Jannette Rose at a church activity while Jannette was visiting her sister Linnea Lester for the summer in Hilliard. Jannette’s childhood home was in Mammoth, Utah. They were lovebirds from the start. They were rarely seen apart. Sterlin often referred to Jannette as “Net”. Sterlin and Jannette were married and sealed for time and all eternity in the Salt Lake Temple on June 21, 1961. He gave everything he had later in life to lovingly take care of Jannette for 7 years while her health declined with pancreatic cancer. He never left her side and was heartbroken when she was called home. He missed her dearly and longed for the day that they could be together again. He was a loving and devoted husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather, son, brother and uncle. His family meant everything to him. He would often say “there is nothing in the world that is more important to me than my family”. He taught by example with gentleness and love. He loved working alongside family around the house, the yard and ranch. Everyone relied on him for his amazing mind and ability to create, build, repair and improve just about anything. If he couldn’t find a part to repair something he would build it. Shortly after his marriage to Jannette, Sterlin served his country in the National Guard.

Sterlin was a faithful member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, serving in bishoprics, as a young men’s advisor, scout leader, and various other callings. His favorite calling was serving as a temple worker with Jannette in the Ogden, Utah Temple. He has given his family a legacy of love, testimony of Jesus Christ, hard work and faithfulness. His wit and sense of humor were well known and loved by many. Sterlin spent his life helping and serving others by laying carpet, fixing furnaces, repairing ranch machinery, doing backhoe work and working cows to name a few. He worked for Mountain Fuel and Questar Gas Companies for 33 years before retiring in 1995. He created lifelong friends and associates while being  a loyal and dedicated employee. So many depended on him for his gentle, wise and thoughtful counsel.

Sterlin is survived by his children RaNae Hutchinson of Evanston, Wyoming, Thane (Julie) Hutchinson of Wellsville, Utah and Jalin (Walter) Sopkowicz of Idaho Falls, Idaho; grandchildren Kendall Hutchinson, Kylie (Christian) Jensen, Gabriel Sopkowicz, Walker (BraeLynn) Hutchinson, Abigail Sopkowicz, Tirzah Sopkowicz, Garrett Hutchinson, Tamara Sopkowicz, and Paden Hutchinson and his first great-grandchild Lila Jean Jensen. He is also survived by his siblings: brother-in-law Michael Saxton, Donna (Ralph) Bolander and Vaughan (Patty) Hutchinson, sister-in-law Carolee Martin. He was preceded in death by his loving wife Jannette Hutchinson, his parents Arthur and Alberta Hutchinson, Jannette’s parents Arthur Dean and Dora Rose, his sister Trudy Saxton, sister-in-law Linnea Lester and brother-in-law's Lamar Lester and Jerry Martin.
